Maple Bowl, No. m333
Here is a very nice lightly spalted platter type bowl.  On May 10,'09 I started turning this bowl. There are a couple of worm holes on the outside surface but none on the inside. This platter has considerable activity in the way of colors and streaks running through it. The base is 5.5" in diameter and rises about 0.3". The overall dimensions are 14.5" diameter and 3.25" height. The finish is Tung Oil, followed by numerous sprayings of spar urethane to provide a waterproof surface. The surfaces are extremely smooth. You'll love to touch it!

Maple Bowl, No. m320
This is an interesting bowl. It has a nice natural crack on the inside alot of wood grain activity in the heartwood and sits on a nice base. It is extremely smooth inside and out, finished in Tung Oil and spar urethane. It measures 8.75" diameter and 4" in height.  I started this bowl on April 12, '09 and it has just been finished and is now available.  If you like unusual wood bowls, this one could fit your interests.  It is somewhat distorted, being 8.75" in one direction and 8" in the other, making the opening oval like.

Maple Bowl, No. m347
Here is a maple bowl that has the 'Michelin tire' look. This bowl had a few small nails in it when I turned it. Some are removed and some remain. It is pretty heavy in weight.  There is some distortion around the top opening. I first turned this during the summer of '09 but the pencil date has disappeared.  The dimensions are: 10.75" diamenter by 5.2" height. The opening on top is 7.25" diameter.  The finish is Tung oil followed by numerous sprayings of spar-urethane. Great for those items you do not want to fall out of the bowl!

Maple Bowl, No. m250
Here is the 'pot of gold' bowl that you have been wishing to fill with your own definition of 'gold'.  This is your typical maple that is just starting to decline in health. Turned in March, '08, I have been wanting to make a wood lid/cover for it.  I have kept it out as a reminder but since I probably will not be able to until I make a completly new bowl and lid combination, I will offer it to you.  The finish is Tung Oil followed by many spraying of spar urethane.  The size is 10.5" diameter by 4.5" height.  Just right for fruits, nuts, candy or your own pot of wishes!

Maple Burl Bowl, No. m319
I do not find burl wood often and when I do, it is usually small in size.  When you turn a bowl, there is probably a 30% loss in diameter and height by the time you finish.  This is due to the fact that you are making something round from a non round piece of material. So, this is what I would call a rather large burl, since the finished diameter is 8" and the height is 5.25". Can't say exactly when I turned this, except to say it was the spring of '09. What one notices about burl is that initially it is heavy but that is due to water present and then of course it becomes very light in weight for its appearance. This burl is pretty light in weight.  I finished it with Tung Oil, painted the porous areas with a very dense polyurethane, then sprayed it with spar urethane. Of course it was sanded between dryings and so it is very smooth considering what the material is. Functional as well as very decorative.

Maple Burl Bowl, No. m297
This piece of burl was probably with the above piece, so you can see that this is the more traditional size of burl. Again, I have lost the date that I first turned this but am sure it was the spring of '09.  Sometimes when you write in pencil the date on wet wood, when it dries, it becomes obliterated. I finished this also with Tung Oil and when you want to preserve any bark like material, you have to fill it in with a dense paint, polyurethane and make sure it doesn't come loose or off (super glue). Following all this, I sprayed it with spar urethane. The approximate size is 5.75 x 3.25. It stands flat and can be quite decorative as well as functional. Great for an office desk!

Maple Burl Bowl No. m293
This burl bowl is just right to put those important items in, e.g. rings, watches, things that you wear but want accessible.  Burls are those little things that surprise you when you turn a bowl. Not knowing whether they will survive the late and the necessary tools needed to make a piece of woody material into a bowl.  This one survived and is quite light in weight and color.  Finished in Tung Oil and then sprayed with many coats of spar urethane, it is very smooth and durable.  Turned in May, '09.  The dimensions are: 5" diameter by 2.5" height.

Maple Bowl, No. m222
This bowl, turned on June 17, '08 has beauty, form and functionality. It is slightly flared out at the top, flat inside bottom, except where it curves into the sides, large flat base, 9" with a top diameter of 12" one way and 11.5" the other. This indicates a slight distortion to the oval direction. The depth of this bowl is essentially 5".  The finish is tung oil, with numerous sprayings of a spar urethane to make the bowl essentially waterproof.  The finish is very smooth and there is a soft shine to it.

Spalted Maple Bowl, No. m353
This bowl, I am calling spalted due to its colorful changes in the wood.  But there is also some burl type wood with a nondescriptive array of lines.  So, if you agree, you would be buying a piece of spalted burl maple. But I will just call it a piece of spalted maple. Turned on January 15, '09, it has a taper upwards to the top(Probably because there was some conflicts with the traditional taper the opposite direction).  Regardless, it is interesting, with dimensions of 7.5" diameter and 5.4" height.  The opening is 6.5" diameter.  Finished with Tung Oil and sprayed with numerous coatings of spar urethane, this bowl is quite smooth and ready for those everyday snacks or whatever.
