This wood came from a beautiful Elm tree that succumbed to a summer storm and had to be cut down. This
bowl was crafted on June 2, '07. This is what I call an inverted bowl! To do this, the grain of wood has to be
even and free of knots and blemishes or else it would crack upon drying. The tapering of the opening lends elegance to
this rather strong in appearance bowl. The finish is numerous additions of pure Tung oil followed by a special polishing
method that makes it ultra smooth.
The dimensions are: 11.75" diameter x 4.75" height

Here is an elm bowl that is probably from a Dutch Elm Disease resistant tree. I know
that the University of New Hampshire had the resistant trees because we bought one in the early 90's to commemorate our daughters birth.
It does grow very fast. So, this bowl was turned on March 3, '09 and has a significant appearance from the 'old
Elm', as I call the pre-Dutch Elm Disease. There is a a nice edge rim on top, is not heavy as some of the
pre-Dutch Elm wood is and it has nice contrasting colors. The finish is Tung oil, followed by numerous sprayings
of spar-urethane. Extremely smooth and very resistant to water. The dimensions are: 9.4" diameter and 4.5" height, just
right for those salads for two! Bon Appetit!
